man, i'm never around anymore. i never even remember to come here and read journals.

i finished my summer semester with a B+ in one class, which i'm filing an academic grievance over because that's utter horseshit. i won't go into all the details why, since everyone would probably be bored by that, but it is. and my GPA has become extremely important because i've decided to go to med school. which is a pretty funny thing to decide when you're almost 29 and almost have your A.S. in math and science. spence and i move to kings bay, GA in october and i'll still be doing online classes at SUNY through december. then i'll start elsewhere (probably Jacksonville). I'd really like to complete a BS in Psychology with premed requirements, since my ultimate goal is Psychiatry.

we get out October of 2008, by which point I hope to have my BS. I'll spend the fall/winter studying and take the MCAT in the spring of 2009, then hopefully enter med school in fall of 2009. this is where it gets challenging. originally, we'd planned for spence to get a job around chattanooga/knoxville. there's no med school there. commuting isn't really feasible since at some point i'll go on call. ETSU is my preference for med school, and is only 3-3.5 hours from connor, but i don't know what kind of job spence can get there, or how much it will pay. i'd like to go to med school without sacrificing our comfort level or proximity to connor, but i don't know if that will be possible. we won't know until 1-1.5 years from now when spence starts looking for jobs and we find out what our options are.

so, yeah, my fall semester just started and i'm taking a couple of PE courses, second class in my bio series, statistics, and elementary french. then i'll have earned my AS in math and science, woohoo :) during the following 2 years i'll need to take 3 more semesters of chemistry (i've had one) and 2 semesters of physics.

i'll be 40 by the time i'm really a professional, but at least i finally found what i believe i will most love to do :)

I'm glad to see you are still on LJ once in a while!
How are you otherwise?

i had to leave early with the kids so spence could finish remodeling/selling the house. i left in june :) it's giving me a lot of time with connor, which is awesome. the official transfer is in october. he leaves around october 5 and will come join us, and then we'll get a place in kings bay.

ah, med school -- still a dream of my own, and not an easy feat, especially considering that i'd have to cease being the principle breadwinner for my little de facto family here.  in the meantime, however, UMUC is providing me with the opportunity to do a non-resident MBA/MSTM dual-degree while maintaining both a full-time job and some modicum of a social life.

UVa has a good med school, of course -- and i think there's some sort of military intelligence establishment in the area.  not too up on my quasi-secret organizational lore... ;)

yeah, i'm lucky that we're used to living on just spence's salary, so as long as i can get enough in loans to cover my costs, it won't present a horrible financial burden. assuming he can get a good job somewhere with a med school i can go to.

we actually considered UVA :) we both like the idea of living in charlottesville. we also both swear it's not because dave matthews lived there. we are both lying. but...UVA is too expensive, VA property taxes are too high, and it's too far from connor. it will probably be either ETSU or MCG (in Augusta).

Hey. I'm never around anymore either, though I didn't move to a different region of the country, so I have no excuse. I'm back on LJ after getting tired of MySpace. I'm glad you have settled on something... it's kind of a deep sense of relief, isn't it? I'm looking at something a little similar. A little. ;-) Still soaping?

yeah, there's a huge sense of relief, especially as it gels more. my initial time frame won't work. despite having an AS i have more than 60 hours left to complete a BS in chemistry (which is what i'd like to do, preferably with a minor in psychology). but that's ok, because i finish my BS at ETSU or augusta state university. we'll probably wind up in augusta since i've learned MCG does offer an MD and it's only a half hour form a nuke plant where spence could work. lots of pieces have to fall into place but that's better than when i worried there was no place for pieces to fall ;)

i haven't soaped in ages, although i just had someone tell me they want to buy every bar of soap i have for their store. so i'll probably soap for them on a regular basis after that. mostly i just don't have my soaping stuff here. i'm sure i'll be soaping against once we get to the new base :)

gels more... haha... your career is not a nongel, so does that mean it will come to fruition faster? ;-)

You have the goal, and sure, things fall in and out of place, but at least you see the destination now. I think that's about 3/4 of the battle sometimes. I hear you on that... it's real scary when there isn't anyplace for pieces to fall.

Sounds great on the soaping too.
